When Ryan and Jackie first reached out to plan their Lake Tahoe elopement, they had their hearts set on Eagle Rock. It’s easy to see why—this overlook is everything. Sweeping views of the lake, golden light filtering through the pines, and just enough elevation to feel like you’re on top of the world without needing to summit a mountain. Originally, this was going to be their ceremony location, but a few logistics made it tricky for their summer elopement day, so we pivoted. I suggested we turn this dreamy spot into their engagement session location instead. Why I Love Sessions Like This
Most of my couples are from out of state, so when they make the trip out to Tahoe before their elopement day to meet me, scout locations, and just breathe in the magic of this place—I freaking love it. I always make time for those visits. Whether we’re chatting logistics, hiking to ceremony spots, or grabbing lattes at one of my fave local cafés, this time together matters. It helps us build trust, get comfortable, and dream up the best day ever.
And in this case, we managed to figure out ways to still make things work for them! Giving couples options is part of what I do. You shouldn’t have to give up your favorite spot entirely, sometimes we just shift how we use it.
