Eloping in Lake Tahoe is always magical. But when clouds roll in and raindrops start to fall right before the vows? That’s when the mountain gives you something even more memorable—something real.
Carlos & Elyn’s Emerald Bay elopement was romantic, tender, and very much going with the flow. They chose this spot not just for the views (although… come on, have you seen those layered peaks and turquoise waters?!) but because it’s one of their favorite places in Tahoe. A space that already held meaning. A space that felt like home.
And when it started raining moments before their ceremony, they didn’t shy away from it. Instead, they leaned in, and it made their story that much more unforgettable.
As we know, Mother Nature can be unpredictable as it is, but especially with mountain weather. I always check forecasts and keep an eye on the radar, but in Tahoe, the weather can shift on a dime.
As your Lake Tahoe elopement photographer and planner, I’m here to help you embrace the elements and make a plan that keeps your day intentional and relaxed. Whether that’s moving your ceremony somewhere under cover, pressing pause to let a storm pass, or throwing on a raincoat and going full send—I’ve got you.
Because a little rain is not a flaw! It’s a part of your story, and we can make it work no matter the weather (as long as it’s not seriously adverse weather, in which case, I always have backup plans).
These two brought so much love, laughter, and tenderness to their day. The forecast had been teasing us all day, and as we got closer to ceremony time, the drizzle turned into a downpour. I offered to move under a giant Jeffrey Pine for the ceremony or wait it out. Elyn looked out at the view, smiled, and said, “It’s just a little rain.”
So we went for it.
They stood on the overlook with their favorite people huddled close, and said their vows as the rain fell.
And you know what? That moody weather gave them something so special. The low clouds hung over the sky, and the light turned dramatic, yet cozy. The landscape felt quiet, reverent, cinematic. These weren’t just beautiful images, they were deeply personal memories, and you can feel the day in every frame.
“OMG!! These are beautiful! Amanda, thank you!!!!”
Yes, it comes with a few logistics: a ceremony permit, some weather considerations, and that short (but definitely steep) trail if you’re heading all the way down to the water. But it also delivers big time when it comes to the variety of landscapes.
There’s, of course, the lake views, but also epic Sierra ridgelines, towering pines, and misty forest vibes, and also secret, tucked-away spots I reserve just for my couples.
Carlos & Elyn chose to stay high up for the ceremony, which gave us that wide, sweeping backdrop of the bay. But we also turned around to catch some of the dramatic granite cliffs and pine forest for their couple portraits, because in Tahoe, you’re always surrounded by beauty.
If you’re planning to elope at Emerald Bay, you’ll need a special use permit from California State Parks. Contact their special event coordinator at LSSEC@parks.ca.gov . If you choose me as your Lake Tahoe elopement photographer, I’ll help you through the application process, and make sure everything gets submitted on time.
Also, parking is limited and can fill fast, especially during peak seasons and on weekends. I’ll help you plan a timeline that avoids the rush, and I always recommend carpooling if you’re bringing guests. Service is often spotty at best, but I’ll prepare you in advance with all location details, so you and your guests know exactly where to go and what to do if you lose service.
I’m here for the lovers who aren’t afraid of a little mud on their boots or a surprise storm in the forecast. I’ll help you plan your day with heart, flexibility, and that big “hell yes” energy.
You deserve more than just pretty photos. You deserve a day that feels like you—laid-back, full of heart, and rooted in what matters most. Whether you’re dreaming of mountaintop vows, a quiet lakeside ceremony, or a full-day adventure with your favorite people, I’ll help you plan a Lake Tahoe elopement experience that’s personal, joyful, and deeply intentional.
