Adventure Elopement with a Jeep in Lake Tahoe

Sarah and Russ spent years exploring California together with their dogs — camping, road-tripping, discovering hidden corners of the coast, and soaking in the freedom that comes with adventure. So when they told me their plans for their adventure elopement in Lake Tahoe, I knew exactly how to make it happen for them!

Their day included a hidden mountain overlook, lakeside cocktails at Garwoods, their doggos, and the Russ’s Bronco, which has probably been on more California adventures than I have. I’ll be thinking about this day forever!

How Sarah & Russ Met

Sarah and Russ met at the University of Miami, thanks to their best friend (and future officiant!) Nand, who was sneakily playing matchmaker. The couple hit it off at a UM football game. From there, their relationship spanned years of long-distance, cross-country moves, vet school, road trips, and dancing.

After Russ proposed on a cliff in Fort Bragg, they knew they wanted their elopement to reflect THEM, their story, their favorite places, and their people. And Lake Tahoe was a no-brainer. They’ve been coming here since 2017, from car camping trips to fancier Airbnb getaways, and always with their pups in tow.

This place holds so many of their adventures and memories, and now it holds their vows too.

Getting Ready & First Look

Sarah and Russ got ready separately in separate Airbnbs. Sarah got ready with her mom, aunt, and girlfriends, while Russ got ready with family just down the road.

We started with a sweet first look right outside their Airbnb, where all three of their dogs got to join in for photos. Then we loaded up Tulip, their best-behaved pup, into Russ’s Bronco and headed out for the ceremony.

The Overlook Adventure Elopement Ceremony

When they told me they wanted a private ceremony location with a stunning overlook, I knew exactly where to take them.

It’s a spot I scouted the summer before. It is a tucked-away trail that leads through a meadow, under towering pines, and ends with a view of Lake Tahoe that literally takes your breath away. It’s not one I recommend for everyone, as it does take some effort to get here, and while I’m not one to gatekeep, this is one of those rare places I save for couples who truly want something intentional and off the beaten path.

A few days before their elopement, I showed them the location (something I always offer when possible), and they were floored not only by the view but also by the walk to reach their spot. It was perfect!

Their best friend Nand officiated, their little brother Matt held Tulip, and they exchanged their vows with some of the most stunning views imaginable.

Then we took some family photos and couples portraits, and headed back to pose with their beloved Bronco.

Lakeside Drinks at Garwoods

After the portraits, we made our way to Garwoods. It’s charming and has the best lakeside views! They do offer a darling beachfront ceremony spot, too! Sarah and Russ had a private room upstairs, away from the buzz of the main restaurant, which was perfect for their intimate dinner with loved ones.

This place is iconic in Tahoe and is VERY busy in the summer months. And yes, there were Wet Woody’s on the pier (if you know, you know).

Private Moments During Their Lake Tahoe Adventure Elopement

Sarah and Russ snuck away to grab some private time away at another beautiful Lake Tahoe overlook. They shared private vows sitting on some rocks, popped champagne, and we managed to catch some dreamy cotton candy clouds as the sun was setting.

Celebration at the Airbnb

The night didn’t end there. While we were exploring, the guests headed back to the Airbnb. The couple rejoined them for cake cutting, dancing, and more time together. Russ showed off some serious dance moves, the dogs were excited to be included again, and confetti rained down on the floor. Sarah and Russ also shared the traditional father-daughter and mother-son dances, which was so special. It was the perfect example of how you can absolutely include meaningful traditions to your adventure elopement day!

Kind Words from the Couple

“Amanda is truly AMAZING! From the very beginning, she guided us through every step of planning our Lake Tahoe elopement, making the whole process seamless and stress-free. She helped us create a timeline that fit perfectly with our day, found a gorgeous spot for our ceremony, and when the big day arrived, she made everything feel relaxed, fun, and absolutely magical.

Not only did Amanda capture stunning photos that perfectly reflect our happiness and the beauty of our day, but she also made the experience unforgettable. She blended in effortlessly with our families and friends, felt like a true friend herself, and made sure even our pups could be part of the celebration.

Thanks to Amanda, our wedding day was everything we dreamed of—memorable, joyful, and perfect. We are beyond grateful for her talent, kindness, and care. If you are looking for someone who will make your elopement or wedding truly special, we cannot recommend Amanda enough!”
